Participation rules

1. Registration Requirements

 

The contest has original design-professional eyewear design group, original design-academic group, smart eyewear (wearable) design group, and digital vision group.

 

Original design-professional eyewear design group:

Open to 1) domestic and overseas professionals engaged in eyewear design;

2) students enrolled in design and eyewear educational institutions, colleges and universities.

 

Original design-academic group: 

Open to domestic and overseas students from design or eyewear educational institutions, colleges and universities.

 

Smart eyewear (wearable) design group:

Open to 1) professionals engaged in the design of smart eyewear, smartwatches, health monitoring devices, or other smart wearable equipment;

2) professionals working on VR/AR-based applications, games, or experience projects;

3) students from design or eyewear educational institutions, colleges and universities.

 

Digital vision group:

Open to 1) domestic and overseas professionals in digital visual fields, including motion image, digital painting, interactive art, etc.;

2) students from design-related educational institutions, colleges and universities.

2. Procedures

 

The contest is divided into four stages, submission of works, preliminary around, semi-finals, and finals. The first three stages will be conducted online, while the final stage will be evaluated on-site.

 

[Submission of works]

Before Friday, November 29, 2024, participants should visit the contest's official website (www.sziedc.com) or designated platforms to understand the rules. They should register and submit their works through the official website based on the characteristics of each group. Submissions may include, but are not limited to, design plans, explanatory video clips, etc. There is no limit to the number of submissions per participant.

 

[Preliminary round evaluation]

In early December 2024, the expert reviewers will review submissions to ensure they meet the contest's qualifications. Eligible works will be shortlisted online.

 

[Semi-finals evaluation]

In mid-December 2024, the expert reviewers will conduct an online evaluation of the submissions, selecting the works that will advance to the on-site finals.

 

[Finals evaluation]

In late December 2024 (before the 2024 Shenzhen International Optics Fair), an on-site roadshow will be held. The expert reviewers will conduct an offline evaluation of the submissions, and based on the final scores, the winning works will be determined. The results will be published on the contest's designated platform.

 

[Awards ceremony]

The awards ceremony will take place in late December 2024, during the 2024 Shenzhen International Optics Fair

3. Work Requirements

 

i. The work shall include a design theme, title, and accompanying text annotations. Design drawings (it is recommended to cover three-view drawings with dimensions, 3D renderings, design descriptions, etc.) should be provided, in PDF format, on A4-size pages. The drawings should be limited to 4-6 pages.

 

ii. All works submitted by participants must have been created, designed, or published after 2021. The content shall align with the theme and scope of the contestand must be original. Participants shall guarantee full ownership of the intellectual property rights to their work. Any plagiarism or infringement on the intellectual property of others will result in permanent disqualification and public announcement by the organizer.

 

iii. If a submitted work is found to be similar to another design, the judging panel reserves the right to request an explanation of the design concept and creative process from the participant to verify originality. In cases of intellectual property infringement, the Judging Committee may ask participants to provide relevant evidence and will investigate and address the issue as necessary.

5. Award Setting

 

i.Organizing Committee Award

The Organizing Committee Award will be awarded across all groups. All shortlisted works are eligible to compete for this award. The winner will receive a cash prize of $14,000, a medal, and an honorary certificate.

 

ii.Group-specific Award

 

a) Original design-professional eyewear design group

Awards will be given based on final scores, with one First Prize, one Second Prize, and one Third Prize.

First Prize: Cash prize of $4,200 (equivalent to RMB 30,000), along with a medal and an honorary certificate;

Second Prize: Cash prize of $2,800 (equivalent to RMB 20,000), along with a medal and an honorary certificate;

Third Prize: Cash prize of $1,400 (equivalent to RMB 10,000), along with a medal and an honorary certificate.

 

b)Original design-academic group

Awards will be given based on final scores, with three First Prizes, six Second Prizes, 12 Third Prizes, and 20 Excellence Awards.

First Prize: Cash prize of $1,400 (equivalent to RMB 10,000), along with a medal and an honorary certificate;

Second Prize: Cash prize of $700 (equivalent to RMB 5,000), along with a medal and an honorary certificate;

Third Prize: Cash prize of $280 (equivalent to RMB 2,000), along with a medal and an honorary certificate;

Excellence Award: Cash award of $70 (equivalent to RMB 500), along with a medal and an honorary certificate.

 

c) Smart eyewear (wearable) design group

Awards will be given based on final scores, with one First Prize, one Second Prize, and one Third Prize.

First Prize: Cash prize of $4,200 (equivalent to RMB 30,000), along with a medal and an honorary certificate;

Second Prize: Cash prize of $2,800 (equivalent to RMB 20,000), along with a medal and an honorary certificate;

Third Prize: Cash prize of $1,400 (equivalent to RMB 10,000), along with a medal and an honorary certificate.

 

d) Digital vision group

Awards will be given based on final scores, with one First Prize, one Second Prize, and one Third Prize.

6. Expenses

 

Registration, medals, and certificates are free of charge.
